5 Ways to Add More Color to Your Wardrobe
Take Advantage of Neutral Colors
If you're trying to build an outfit around your new teal sweater, it helps to know your neutrals. Items that feature neutral colors (black, white, grey, and brown) will go with just about anything, providing a solid foundation for more colorful apparel.
T-Shirts Are Perfect for Adding a Pop of Color
Another easy way to expand your color palette is to lean on your roster of t-shirts. While more complex pieces may be hard to incorporate, a monochromatic tee is endlessly versatile, and provides some extra color without going overboard. If you're looking to build a collection, Uniqlo's simple tees cost less than a pint of beer.
Find Items That Pair New Colors with Old Standbys
Once you've mastered the basics, it's time to level up. A more complex way to add extra color is to find a "bridge" item, which pairs a familiar color (blue) with one you're trying to add (red). This allows you to seamlessly add a piece to any go-to outfit.
Have Faith in the Accent Piece
If you're willing to go out on a limb, at least every once in a while, try adding an accent piece. Scarves, hats, vests, and socks are all likely contendersjust make sure you limit yourself to one accent color per outfit.
When All Else Fails, Accessorize
Your everyday style isn't limited to apparel. If you just can't find a colorful piece that matches the rest of your wardrobe, expand your search to accessories. A colorful watchband, accent laces, or a brightly hued bag are all simple ways to switch things up without compromising your look.
