What Would Brando Wear? Get a Glimpse of Oscar Style in the 1950s
It was the Hollywood of Bogart and Sinatra, when bowties were worn in earnest and black tie didnt mean monochrome.
GQ dug up some photographic gems from the 1955 Oscarswhen Marlon Brando took home the trophy for On the Waterfronteven going so far as to call it the most stylish day ever. Based on the preponderance of peaked lapels, pocket squares, and white bowties, were inclined to agree.
Though the sartorial leaps of todaylike man buns and short suitsare nowhere to be found, these images are a glimpse into something far more exciting: the birth of classic.
